Georgio "the Dove Valentino" - David McClymont - Live shows for Dave Graney and Clare Moore in 2017

Early 2016 saw a recording session in North Melbourne organized by David McClymont, once bass player of Postcard Records premier act Orange Juice.

David also played in the Moodists in their extremely creative latter years ('85-87) which saw two EPs released.

After many years, David recently returned to writing and recording music. Projects of his own, others collaborating with MOMUS in Japan

and on many occasions , hooking up with different musicians and singers from across the world.

He has a Soundcloud page here. There are also many clips on Youtube. Its hard to pick a clip to show the depth and variety of all  the creativity and songwriting.

The session was to record a couple of songs with Georgio "the Dove" Valentino, a musician, writer and performer from Brussels (born in Miami).

Clare Moore was brought in on drums, Dave Graney on guitar and Georgio's collaborator Patrizia F on bass. David McClymont played keys on the song he wrote and bass on Georgio's song.

The session took place at Mick Harvey's rehearsal space in Melbourne and has been issued as a 7" single.

David McClymont made a video clip for another song that Georgio wrote and sang . "Don't Do Me Any Favours". Seems to be a Miami connection in the imagery?

Georgio "the Dove" Valentino will be returning to Australia in 2017 , accompanied by Patrizia F and will open for Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes at Lizottes in Newcastle March 31st and the Basement in Sydney April 1st.
Then there will be a series of regional NSW shows with Dave Graney and Clare Moore playing music as a duo supported by Georgio and Patrizia F. Dates listed below.

December digital release for Dave Graney and Clare Moore - I Ain't Hi Vis

2016 has seen the release of ten digital tracks from Dave Ganey and Clare Moore since February.

I'm A Good Hater
This Is The Deadest Place I've Ever Died In
I Been Trendy
Drifting Donna Reed
Are You Out Of Your Mind? (Get Back In)

Let's Kick This Mob Out

and for December we have I Ain't Hi Vis .

All manual workers in public places in Australia wear fleuro or hi vis clothing. Upon donning the strangely medieavel looking apparel, they are immediately accorded the role of authentic, respected, valued members of society and are allowed access to all areas. No questions - they have rank and accreditation.
What are you looking at?

Dave Graney is a musician and performer; an illegitimate, dodgy, shiftless lair of a character for sure, if such a dude is ever seen loitering in any public place. In a forest clearing. In his or her flash clothes and glaring lack of any tools or skills useful for the economy -  stupid.
Luckily Dave Graney and Clare Moore are rarely seen in public areas, and even then they are way, way deep inside a scrum of more normal looking, generic, nice, ordinary  players.

I ain't hi vis
kinda FIFO though'old school FIFO
FE FI FO fum

I ain't in plastic yellow
I ain't in danger
not standin' on a stage like this

I'm in the scrollin' teens
rough seas

I ain't Hi Vis
I don't need it
the attention
I ain't got no tools
just flash clothes

Dave Graney, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, keys and lead vocals
Clare Moore, drums, percussion, backing vocals.

Recorded and Mixed by Dave Graney at the Ponderosa in November 2016.

Dave Graney and Clare Moore have played all the instruments on all the tracks save for Drifting Donna Reed which was credited to dave graney and the mistLY.

Each song was written and recorded each month. No stockpiling, just flashes of inspiration and equally flash recording and mixing sessions at their studio which they dubbed, lomnh ago, teh Ponderosa. The main features that have linked the songs have been Dave Graney using his Maton Alver acoustic guitar which he had serviced late 2015 and a vintage (70s) AKG microphone for most of teh lead vocals.

Dave Graney - October single Matey, From On High. Bennetts Lane Oct 23rd with the mistLY

Fresh from another EPIC show with the Coral Snakes 2016 , Dave Graney releases his eighth single for the year with the jazzy groover , "Matey, From On High".

Dave Graney played acoustic guitars, electric guitars and bass guitar and keys.
Clare Moore played the drums.

Stu Thomas played the trumpet and contributed some wonderful backing vocals.

Will Hindmarsh and Emily Jarrett, courtesy of Go Go Sapien, also sang like a choir.

It's got a nagging hook like a lot of the vocal chants from Sun Ra.  The beat swings and the chords keep rising all the time.

Title taken from a  line in the book, THE APES OF GOD, by Wyndham Lewis. The early 20th century author and painter is pictured on the bottom right of the single image.

A show with the mistLY will happen Sunday Oct 23rd at Bennetts Lane in the heart of Melbourne.
Tickets Here.

Southern Belles - show at Memo Music Hall Sunday Oct 30th

Background
The Southern Belles was a sell-out at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in June.
Co-Artistic Director of the Festival, Ali McGregor, had appeared in an earlier version of the show programmed for Morning Melodies at the Victorian Arts Centre in 2011.
She thought the show could be re-worked as a cabaret production with the addition of a narrative, and it was performed there to great acclaim by Jane Clifton, Nichaud Fitzgibbon and Carla Lippis.
Clare Moore (drums) and Rosie Westbrook (bass) shared Musical Direction of the show for the Adelaide season as they do for the MEMO Music Hall performance – appearing with a seven-piece band including a high-powered brass section.
Nichaud Fitzgibbon and Jane Clifton, who were both in the original Victorian Arts Centre season, are joined by Rebecca Barnard for the MEMO Music Hall performance on 30 October.

The Southern Belles - Sun 30 October 3pm
DIRECT FROM A SOLD OUT SEASON AT ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL

Also featuring the dynamic duo of Clare Moore on drums and Rosie Westbrook on bass as part of a seven-piece band including a high-powered brass section. Southern Belles is about a time in our history when the message had started to resonate that women could take a hold of their lives and their stories were being told through some amazing music.

I'm A Good Hater- first of a series of digital release planned for 2016- at itunes and Bandcamp now

I'm A Good Hater was cooked up in their Ponderosa Studio in the hills on the outer edge of Melbourne by Dave Graney and Clare Moore in early January 2016.
I'm A Good Hater is a positively, gleeful yet POISONOUS brag about HATING on something or someone. Hard. But Fair.
The singer says he's "a rank detester/a super loather/a champion raspberry blower/ a righteous disliker...."
Driving acoustic guitar, synth bass, tambourine, wah wah, handclaps and more synth lay down the texture and the tarmac for the singer to stroll out on. He's "a good hater/one of the best, I've heard/ from someone who says they should know..."

Released at itunes Feb 18th, the first of many single tracks to come out in 2016

I'm A Good Hater.  From Dave Graney, written, performed and recorded by Dave Graney and Clare Moore.
