Dave Graney and Clare Moore - March digital release How Long Does The Raunch?

How Long Does The Raunch?

4:08
Starts with jazz guitar chords and vocals. Then Drum Machine, Vibes, Marimba and electric guitar. A whole lot of questions? How Long Does the Raunch Stop In One?

"Over stimulation. Modern life is demanding. Filling a dude with images and feels, emotions dragged and pulled out, demanded. Follow up to Be Sad For Me and coming from a similar direction. This time worrying about "normalization" of images of violence and sex and the immediate, thrilling power they have. How they are described as "raunchy". Kind of cute. Gaddafi on youtube getting hunted and hacked and kicked by a mob. Starving children in third world countries. Can you unsee such things? How long do "raunchy" things stay plain old raunchy? Do they get stale or do you? How long do they stay? Stay "raunchy"? What happens to you? What do you do with it? What does it do to you?"

This track shows how far Graney and Moore have taken their mad R&B licks.

Certainly, few other Australian acts, whether their contemporaries or the generations following, are anywhere near this sort of territory. the command of the studio, the sounds, the chordings, voices and the lyrics and the whole character of the things they are creating.
This is the thirteenth monthly digital release since February 2016.

There is a page devoted to the releases here

Dave Graney and Clare Moore February digital release - BE SAD FOR ME - live shows with Dave Graney 'n' the Coral Snakes

Be Sad For Me is the new digital release for Dave Graney and Clare Moore. The twelfth since February 2016.

Available at Bandcamp and at every other digital portal via this link.

BE SAD FOR ME is a 2:38  packet of sound. A rare breakthrough of the three minute barrier for Dave Graney. The writer and singer is asking the listener - or passerby- to feel sad INSTEAD OF HIM doing it. In his place. Not to be sad for the singer himself. He is "outsourcing his tears".

Be Sad For Me!
I’m outsourcing my tears
cryin’ it forward
Here’s a minor chord
strum it!
they will come
tears of a stadium
tears for streaming
here - have some of mine
help yourself!
you can cry for me
I’m all choked up
but I don’t have much time
Be sad For Me
I’ll owe you big time
Be Sad For Me!
I’m outsourcing my tears

I Need To Be Hot - January release from Dave Graney and Clare Moore - further inormation

I Need To be Hot is the January release for Dave Graney and Clare Moore.
This is the first for 2017 and follows a release more or less every month since February 2016. Most have been credited to Dave Graney and Clare Moore as they have been studio creations cooked up by those two rather than formal recording sessions with their band the mistLY.

It is available at itunes and Bandcamp.

A clip has been posted to Youtube. Camera work on Dave Graney by Will Hindmarsh and other footage shot at Glenelg Beach in South Australia in December 2016 by Dave Graney.

LYRICS

I need to be hot
sorry to be so cold
I need to be hot
you know
ttsssssssss!
I'm not talkin' about trendy
I'm not talkin' about cool
I can't afford to be cool
I need to be hot

I need to be hot

What is my way?

I'm not talkin' about cool
I can't afford to be cool

Dave Graney and Clare Moore- January 2017 single I NEED TO BE HOT

January 2017 has seen Dave Graney and Clare Moore involved in the BOWIE IN BERLIN series of shows - musical director Mick Harvey - around Australiaand also coping with a recent flodding of their Ponderosa Studio. All is detailed here in Dave Graney's blog.

A review from the show at the Enmore theatre in Sydney.

We are here to talk about the January digital release I NEED TO BE HOT.

Dave Graney leads it in with hs new 24' ultra short scale bass , Clare Moore on drums and electric guitars again by Dave Graney. A sly and soulful groover of a song. The chorus building and building. Very economical with the words. A BIG chorus.

Hot vs COOL. Two polarities long worried at in popular music.

Louis Armstrong and Django Reinhardt were HOT.
Miles Davis was there at the birth of the COOL. Chet Bakerwas there. Charlie Parker had both.
Drugs helped. Elvis and Little Richard were HOT. Scott Walker COOL.

Money helps with cool. You don't worry with cash or a long credit line from home. Money from Home. COOL.

People respect cool. Gregory Isaacs, the COOL RULER. He did it with style and ganga.
Slick Rick. COOL. LL COOL J - invariably HOT! Rakim - you know it!

James Brown? Definitely hot. Curtis Mayfield COOL. Fridgelike!

Drugs? Paradoxically, Ice seems to make people hot.

Jim Morrison -cool . Rob Tyner - hot.

Television? Hell and Verlaine - the COOLEST!

Flippping the coin, Dave Graney decided he needs to be hot.

I guess it's the heat from outside he's talking about. The track itself is COOL. (He's on a  Birdseye Kick!)

Georgio "the Dove Valentino" - David McClymont - Live shows for Dave Graney and Clare Moore in 2017

Early 2016 saw a recording session in North Melbourne organized by David McClymont, once bass player of Postcard Records premier act Orange Juice.

David also played in the Moodists in their extremely creative latter years ('85-87) which saw two EPs released.

After many years, David recently returned to writing and recording music. Projects of his own, others collaborating with MOMUS in Japan

and on many occasions , hooking up with different musicians and singers from across the world.

He has a Soundcloud page here. There are also many clips on Youtube. Its hard to pick a clip to show the depth and variety of all  the creativity and songwriting.

The session was to record a couple of songs with Georgio "the Dove" Valentino, a musician, writer and performer from Brussels (born in Miami).

Clare Moore was brought in on drums, Dave Graney on guitar and Georgio's collaborator Patrizia F on bass. David McClymont played keys on the song he wrote and bass on Georgio's song.

The session took place at Mick Harvey's rehearsal space in Melbourne and has been issued as a 7" single.

David McClymont made a video clip for another song that Georgio wrote and sang . "Don't Do Me Any Favours". Seems to be a Miami connection in the imagery?

Georgio "the Dove" Valentino will be returning to Australia in 2017 , accompanied by Patrizia F and will open for Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes at Lizottes in Newcastle March 31st and the Basement in Sydney April 1st.
Then there will be a series of regional NSW shows with Dave Graney and Clare Moore playing music as a duo supported by Georgio and Patrizia F. Dates listed below.

December digital release for Dave Graney and Clare Moore - I Ain't Hi Vis

2016 has seen the release of ten digital tracks from Dave Ganey and Clare Moore since February.

I'm A Good Hater
This Is The Deadest Place I've Ever Died In
I Been Trendy
Drifting Donna Reed
Are You Out Of Your Mind? (Get Back In)
You Need A Kleek, Klook
Rupert's Pets Grave
Matey, From On High
Let's Kick This Mob Out

and for December we have I Ain't Hi Vis .

All manual workers in public places in Australia wear fleuro or hi vis clothing. Upon donning the strangely medieavel looking apparel, they are immediately accorded the role of authentic, respected, valued members of society and are allowed access to all areas. No questions - they have rank and accreditation.
What are you looking at?

Dave Graney is a musician and performer; an illegitimate, dodgy, shiftless lair of a character for sure, if such a dude is ever seen loitering in any public place. In a forest clearing. In his or her flash clothes and glaring lack of any tools or skills useful for the economy -  stupid.
Luckily Dave Graney and Clare Moore are rarely seen in public areas, and even then they are way, way deep inside a scrum of more normal looking, generic, nice, ordinary  players.

I ain't hi vis
kinda FIFO though'old school FIFO
FE FI FO fum

I ain't in plastic yellow
I ain't in danger
not standin' on a stage like this

I'm in the scrollin' teens
rough seas
nothin' changes though
people come and go

I ain't Hi Vis
I don't need it
the attention
I ain't got no tools
just flash clothes

cream buns at eleven
be alright I s'pose
I ain't got no tools
just flash clothes

I ain't Hi Vis
I'm underworld
I ain't got no tools
just flash clothes

Dave Graney, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, keys and lead vocals
Clare Moore, drums, percussion, backing vocals.

Recorded and Mixed by Dave Graney at the Ponderosa in November 2016.

Dave Graney and Clare Moore have played all the instruments on all the tracks save for Drifting Donna Reed which was credited to dave graney and the mistLY.

Each song was written and recorded each month. No stockpiling, just flashes of inspiration and equally flash recording and mixing sessions at their studio which they dubbed, lomnh ago, teh Ponderosa. The main features that have linked the songs have been Dave Graney using his Maton Alver acoustic guitar which he had serviced late 2015 and a vintage (70s) AKG microphone for most of teh lead vocals.
